Chapters 1 Define early childhood development and the Whole Child concept. Early childhood development is the study of children’s growing and development from eight years old to pre-birth. Explain why it is important to understand early childhood development. It is important to understand early childhood development because it helps to understand the children better. In order for the teachers to meet the children’s needs, they have to know how and what they need to do. Learning early childhood development is also important because understanding early childhood development will allow the teacher to build a sound basis for DAP (developmentally appropriate practice) and also to meet the professional training requirement.
